Sustainable Self-Build Annexe
One of our all time favourite residential projects. Following successfully achieving Full Planning Permission & Discharge of Planning Conditions, Embrace Architecture assisted this dynamic client in creating a self-build annexe on a site adjoining their former home. The design was centred around an open plan Living/Dining/Kitchen area with a direct physical & visual link to the private garden via two storey verandah & cellular ancillary accommodation to the rear including rear porch & wet room. To the first floor the principal bedroom with en-suite was orientated to take advantage of panoramic far reaching views of the River Deben. Using a construction drawing package provided by Embrace Architecture the client created a delightful thermally efficient, two storey property using a combination of re-used building materials from the original house & re-claimed elements such as timber panelling, staircase & kitchen carcasses. When completed the home exudes a feeling of calm, a richness of material, ‘pops’ of playful colour & personal touches that is testimony to the clients tenacity & vision.
